A Blessing for You and the World
A Story of Water, Light, and Joy
I often mention how the doors to the spiritual realm opened after the tumultuous year of loss and grief. I learned that God is the energy of creation, and nothing exists outside of God/Source energy; God is love; God is the divine light in all living things. And then I began connecting to Light Beings.
One of my first messages?
Read Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking. I consumed this old fashioned and simple book in one sitting. Only to then realize my mom must have read this book—she embodied its simple principles:
1. Think and speak positive and be cheerful.
2. Ignore negativity when it shows up—just pretend you do not see it or did not hear it.
3. Assume every person you meet is about to become your friend.
4. Practice extreme kindness.
My mom also believed thoughts were things, that our consciousness was creating reality. I was only 14, still skeptical, aligned more with my dad’s agnosticism, science and rationality and I did not share this belief. My mom wanted to prove it, that consciousness creates reality.
She arranged a grand experiment: if she found five dollars (on the ground), we would continue this manifestation test with a higher denomination and work our way over the course of two months to 50 dollars.
What followed still sparks joy. In quick succession, my mom found: five, ten, and finally a twenty-dollar bill. When, she found a second twenty dollar bill the very next day, we laughed with amazement and delight.
That’s when I promised, “If you find anything over 50 dollars, I will be a believer.”
Within a week my mom found a beautiful antique platinum diamond ring. We put an ad in the newspaper (yes, it was many years ago) and no one ever claimed it. The jeweler offered us 1500 dollars for it.
I’ve never taken this ring off; it is the only jewelry I’ve ever worn.
But this is not the story I wanted to share.
I wanted to share the main impact of reading The Power of Positive Thinking. Part of Mr. Peale’s relentless positivity involved blessing people. Every person he encountered, even people walking on the opposite side of the street, he blessed or rather he silently asked God to bless this person.
My heart leaped when I absorbed this. I began to practice it at once. For me, I imagine God/Source love as a glittering white light, and I visualize it cascading over people.
Go to a public space and try it for just one hour.
Feel how profoundly it alters your light. Your heart begins to hum and then burst into song. (Music metaphor to make the point that you begin hitting a high octave of joy.) As if sensing something in the air, people begin smiling, only to then appear confused, as if wondering just why they are smiling.
This simplest of all spiritual practices tees up miracle after miracle.
First miracle: You will be happier.
Eventually, Melchizedek’s turned this into the beautiful and sacred life changing Metta-mediation practice:
Melchizedek’s Metta Meditation: A Step-by-Step Guide to Miracles (Revised.)
My Guides gave me this most beautiful practice. It is a potent form of the Metta meditation or loving-kindness meditation. This is the single most transformational spiritual practice. Drawing on the awesome power of prayer and amplifying this with the energy of love,
But that is not what I wanted to share with you.
What I wanted to share was that swimming has been the biggest joy in my life. This might seem like I am changing the subject but…
My older brother taught me to swim at age two in a magical place called Agua Caliente. Every day during the summer, my parents packed up an old station wagon with every kid in the neighborhood and delivered us to this slice of heaven. There expansive, tree shaded picnic grounds surrounded a larger than Olympic size pool, one drained and filled every day with warm mineral water. There was no chlorine.
Soon I understood I was much happier in and under water than on land.
When, I moved to SoCal to finish college and ended up marrying one of my professors (thank you John!) I discovered ocean swimming. Almost every day during the summer, I swim through these forests of kelp and the five foot sea grass and layers of schools and schools of fish. Sometimes the tightly packed trail of fish are so long, you can not reach the end of them, especially since Laguna Beach made their ocean into a marine sanctuary. Over the decades I’ve encountered seals, a few sharks, lots of sea lions and dolphins and one memorable time, a baby whale went directly under us, his mom watching from the distant horizon. It is an ocean wonderland.
Point is, I have always been connected to the spiritual aspect of water. I also love rain, fog, any moisture in the air. I take shamelessly long showers, memorized the best pools for swimming and their hours in every city I visit. The first time I laid eyes on Matisse’s’ Swimming Pool, I wept.
I recently discovered Kelly Kolodney who channels the “Archangel Raphael.” This is really a collective energy field of high light beings, but they employ this name Archangel Raphael because it resonates historically with us humans.
Here a person asked these beautiful beings about blessing water:
This is what they say:
Your body is mostly water. The Earth is mostly water.
All of life depends on water.
Every time you have contact with water, bless it as that which sustains us
Bless the waters quenching your thirst and pouring over you in shower. Even bless the water making your coffee. Bless the rain and the snow, the streams and rivers and lakes.
And then imagine the mother waters. The Big Blue, our oceans. Picture their crystal-clear waters as healthy and thriving, teeming with fish and wildlife.
They say this is the first and most powerful step to healing the beautiful blue-green orb we live upon and as we heal the Earth, we heal ourselves.
Bless people and bless the sacred water that sustain us.

Thank you for sharing this JJ! I love everything about this!
